Key responsibilities of an elected official include but are not limited to:
- Setting vision, mission and goals for the organization
- Establishing a strategic plan for the organization
- Setting policy through legislation
- Evaluating the City Administrator who reports to the elected body
- Reviewing and approving the annual budget
- Appointing and evaluating advisory boards and commissions
- Follow up on issues and activities between meetings with staff and constituents
- Educating and informing programs to citizens
- Attending scheduled council meetings, council workshops, public hearings and other meetings as called by the Mayor.
